Older Person’s Physical Activity Co-ordinator
My role within the Get Active Team focuses on physical activity for the older population of Bolton with particular emphasise on social inclusion. Prior to my present role I was a Health Trainer for NHS Bolton for 3 years advising and encouraging over 45s to make life style changes which included taking up some form of exercise in order to prevent ill health.
Interesting Fact:
In 2002 whilst on holiday in South Africa I tried White Water River rafting on the Orange River – scary but exhilarating!
Excuses for not being active:
No time, that is my usual excuse as I am always so busy, so now and again I have to give myself a good talking to!
How do I do it?
I like to walk and try to meet up with girl friends at least twice a week, it’s great to walk and talk. We have a really good catch up and at the same time get lots of exercise whilst doing so. It certainly doesn’t feel like a chore and we all benefit in lots of ways. A good nights sleep is always guaranteed after all the fresh air. I also enjoy supporting our volunteers and often join in their chair based exercise sessions. They don’t half make you work!!
