I’ve enjoyed a very varied career to date, that includes spells in education and environmental planning. I’m passionate about cycling, and it’s what I spend most of my spare time doing. I use my bike to tour some very interesting parts of the world. I’ve run the Get Active cycle programme for the last four years and I’ve had the pleasure of working with over 200 new and returning cyclists and we’ve had lots of fun along the Middlebrook Trail. I support our walking programme as well as organising activities and events and developing partnerships with other organisations.
Interesting Fact:
I love eating spinach and every summer I grow five different varieties in my sunny back garden. So as you can see I love gardening.
Excuses for not being active:
“It’s too windy/wet/cold/hot for cycling”! I sometimes seem able to find something else to do just as I’m thinking about getting my bike out.
How do I do it?
I try to build as much exercise as I can into my day. I ride to work and I walk from home to the shops and back instead of using my car. I carry my shopping in a rucksack. I enjoy being outdoors so as well as cycling I spend time walking in the Lakes, Scotland and Dales and I’ve recently started canoeing on the sea. In summer I spend the odd day sailing a dinghy at Hollingworth Lake. I enjoy exercise most when I’m doing it with friends. It’s more fun and more motivating.
2012 is taking me and my bike to Denmark and Berlin at Easter, the Isle of Man in spring and possibly the Basque Country in September in summer.Back to Meet the Team
