Get Active Co-ordinator
I have been working for the Get Active team since April 2007, and was involved in setting up the programme from scratch. It has been a great pleasure to see how the Programme has evolved over the last 3 years. After completing a BA Hons Degree in Social Work Studies I went onto become a Recruitment Consultant and then an Advice & Guidance Officer within a Community Setting. I love working with people and have always been passionate about Physical Activity so it’s a great opportunity to be able to lead on the Get Active Programme and work with a fantastic team!
Interesting Fact:
I won the under 16’s, Double’s & Teams Disco Dancing Championships at the Blackpool Tower Bolton in 1996 and I jumped out of a plane in Australia!!
Excuses for not being active:
‘Sometimes I just don’t have the motivation’ or ‘I’m tired after a long day at work’.
How do I do it?
I try and plan my week in advance, so book on classes at the gym the week before. I vary the types of exercise I do, so some days I’ll go for a run, (if the weather’s nice), another day I’ll go to Zumba, Body Pump, Adrenaride and sometimes I’ll cycle to work. I enjoy socialising with friends so arrange to exercise with them which motivates me and makes it more fun, particularly when it involves a dance floor! At the weekend I like to go for walks or take part in the weekly Parkrun at Leverhulme Park on Saturday’s. I recently completed the Greater Manchester 10k run which really motivated me to increase my fitness levels! I am currently learning to Snowboard in preparation for a holiday in February next year, which has been a challenge but involved lots of laughing!
