Bike Rides

Bike_Rides_213x158pxGet Active bike rides are group sessions led by a trained instructor or volunteer. All sessions take place on good routes away from traffic and there’s always a friendly place for a stop off and some social time. Bikes and helmets are provided so you’ve no need to fork out on expensive equipment. Cycling can help you feel your best both physically and mentally as you’ll be enjoying the fresh air and local environment. With a variety of bike rides on offer there’s sure to be one which suits your needs no matter what your ability.

Beginners Cycling – Gentle cycling on a flat safe athletics track. No roads to contend with so perfect if you’ve never ridden a bike before or you want to build your confidence.

Short Bike Rides – Short traffic-free health rides which last about 1 hour. Sessions start from Chorley Street and ride out to Lostock and back along the Middlebrook Cycle Trail. These rides are especially suitable if you are returning to cycling after a long break.

Longer Fitness Rides – A sociable traffic-free fitness ride lasting approximately 2 hours. Sessions start from Chorley Street and ride out to Tesco at Middlebrook, Horwich and back, along the Middlebrook Cycle Trail. The ride includes a 20 minute stop at Tesco’s café.

Boccia (indoor bowls)

Boccia is an indoor bowling game played from a seated position, so it is an excellent activity for people with limited mobility. It can be played one-on-one, in pairs or with teams of three. The aim of the game is for players to throw or bowl balls in order to get as close as possible to a target ball. Chutes and ramps can be used by players unable to throw balls.

Fitness for Fun

fitness_for_fun_213x147pxFitness for Fun consists of gentle exercise to music as well as some floor work which will assist with toning. This is a low impact exercise class ideal for beginners and can be adapted to suit your needs.

Folk Dancing

Folk_dancing_213x147pxFolk dancing is a low impact group based activity led by a qualified dance instructor. You will learn the basic folk dance moves and enjoy dance routines choreographed in groups. This session is suitable for all abilities.

Gentle Aerobics

Gentle_Aerobics_213x147pxGentle aerobics is a low intensity, low impact group based exercise to music class designed to get your feet moving. It uses a variety of moves and steps to create a class which can be full of fun and be highly motivating. This class is ideal if you are a beginner to exercise.

Gentle Dance & Movement

Gentle_Dance_213x158pxGentle dance classes are low level exercise to music sessions which uses the whole body. The exercises consist of gentle toning and stretching using dance techniques and principals so you’re sure to have great fun. All classes are delivered by a qualified dance teacher who will choreograph dance routines for the whole group.

Gentle Stretch & Exercise

Gentle_Stretch_213x158pxGentle stretch and exercise classes generally consist of a group warm up followed by a gentle circuit based session, with a cool down and stretch. Exercises can be adapted to suit your needs so these sessions are great for beginners.

Gentle Exercise

Gentle_Excercise_213x158pxGentle exercise classes are low intensity sessions specifically designed for adults in a friendly atmosphere. You will be participating in a range of different exercises which could include gentle aerobics, yoga, chair based exercises, relaxation and stretches. This session is for all abilities and can be adapted to suit your individual needs. It can be an excellent way to socialise and meet new people.

Health Walks

Health_Walks_213x158pxHealth walks are a great way to increase your physical activity levels. They’re FREE and don’t require specialist equipment. Health walks are especially suitable if you want to start exercising for the first time or you haven’t done any exercise for a while. Walks are led by trained volunteers and individuals are encouraged to walk at a speed which is comfortable for them. All walks are in the local neighbourhood and are a fantastic way to meet new friends and socialise.Level 1 Walks – Maximum 1 hour duration – gentle pace, good footpaths, fairly flat, no steps or stiles.Level 2 Walks – 1-2 hour duration – medium pace, varied terrain, some gentle hills, occasional steps & / or stiles.Level 3 Walks – Minimum 2 hours duration – brisk pace, uneven terrain, some challenging hills, steps & / or stiles.

Jog Bolton

Jog_bolton_213x147pxJog Bolton is a running group aimed at beginners / improvers. The sessions follow a 10 week programme aimed at enabling you to run for 30 minutes non stop, 5km or whatever your personal goal happens to be.

Line Dancing

Line_Dancing_213x158pxLine dancing is a form of group dance led by a qualified dance teacher. This low impact dance class will enable you to enjoy learning a variety of routines danced to a wide range of music including Latin, waltz, jazz, funk, pop, rumba, tango,celtic and country. Line dancing is great for all ages and abilities as you are able to dance to as little or as many routines as you like. It is a great social event so you’re sure to make new friends along the way.

Lunch & Move

Lunch_and_move_213x147pxLunch & move is a low level exercise session including Boccia, Bowls and chair based exercise, perfect if you are new to exercise or you’re looking for a gentle type of activity. You will also have the opportunity to stay for lunch afterwards for a small fee.

Men’s Exercise

Mens_excercise_213x147pxMen’s exercise sessions are based around a group warm up followed by a gentle circuit based exercises, with a cool down and stretch. Exercises can be adapted to suit your needs so these sessions are ideal for beginners.

Parkrun

Parkrun_213x147pxparkrun is a free, weekly, timed 5k run. Ideal for all ages and abilities and you can even walk it if you want too. The event is organised by volunteers who will encourage you all the way. parkrun is a great way to get in to running and a real social event with refreshments available on completion of the route. Runners must register at www.parkrun.com and print out a barcode.

Pilates

Pilates_213x147pxPilates is a form of exercise that works on balancing and controlling movement. Pilates is suitable for all levels of fitness and ability. You can use Pilates to help you feel fitter and more flexible. It is also a good exercise for movement problems you might have, caused by bad posture, injury and pain. If you have had joint surgery and see a physiotherapist you might like to as him or her about pilates.

Salsa

Salsa is a fun and exciting way to be active and burn calories. It will increase your heart rate, tone your muscles, and may even help you lose weight. The session is led by a qualified dance teacher and includes the basic Latin American steps that are used in Salsa. It is a fantastic way to meet new people and all classes can be adapted to suit you whether you’re a complete beginner or if you have danced Salsa before. No need to have a partner!!

Supervised Gym

Supervised_Gym_213x158pxSupervised gym sessions take place in the fitness gym under the instruction of a fully qualified fitness Instructor. Individual exercise programmes will be developed to suit your needs. Wear loose fitting clothing and bring a sweat towel and a drink.

Women’s Only Keep Fit

Womens_keep_fit_213x147pxWomen’s only keep fit is a medium intensity, group-based exercise to music class that is designed to get your feet moving and your heart pumping. It uses moderate and low impact moves with your arms and legs that are designed to burn calories and improve aerobic fitness. Exercises can be adapted to suit your needs.

Yoga

Yoga_213x158pxYoga is a series of movements and positions that help you physically and mentally. Yoga will help you improve your control over stresses in your life and make you feel more relaxed. If also tones you and helps your flexibility and strength. A class might start or finish with relaxation, followed by warm-up movements, postures and breathing exercises. Sometimes a class will include meditation. You will need to wear loose-fitting clothing.
